Old Salem and Tanglewood Christmas Lights

November 29, 2014

Price per person: $89

Get ready for a fun filled day. This morning we travel to Winston Salem, North Carolina, for a visit to Old Salem Museums and Gardens. We will experience early American history in the unique Moravian settlement of Salem seeing original structures, gardens, and artifacts. Founded in 1766 by the Moravians, a Protestant group of missionaries from the Czech Republic, Salem was the central hub surrounded by five outlying congregations. Our guided tour of the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts spans from 1680 to 1820. Wind through period rooms and galleries showcasing furniture, paintings textiles, ceramics and more. This is the only museum dedicated to exhibiting and researching original decorative arts of the early south. Late afternoon we depart for the Tanglewood Festival of Lights in Tanglewood Park, Clemmons. The Festival is one of the largest and most spectacular holiday light shows in the entire Southeast. The Park is transformed into a winter wonderland of giant, twinkling snowflakes and whimsical scenes! Maybe we can stop and warm our hands over the fire and drink some hot chocolate.
